to my brother Giorgio
On this CD are 23 songs for children in 12 languages -
european lieder together with traditional lullabies from
around the world.
The origin of the CD is unusual. PaolaTedde conceived the
song program after having studied - with other artists and pedagogues - the development in drawings made by young children from one to seven years of age. The discovery: around the world, children use the same forms in their
pictures; they paint in a universal language. While this discovery gave birth to the international exhibition
project „Look!", PaolaTedde raised the question:Who
among the great musicians of the 19 th and 20 th century dedicated lieder to children?
Compiling the program, it became clear how often
composers draw on folk sources. What could be more
obvious than putting compositions of our occidental
musical culture next to traditional folksongs from around
the world? The universal character of music finds its expression in this area of diverse and completely different creative forces - just like in the children's pictures.
At the end of the CD, this becomes particularly obvious:
the famous „Good evening, good night" by Johannes
Brahms is followed by a lullaby from Mali that finishes the song collection - to invite listeners to hear lied and
archaic song together.
